This month's download of a Peter Brown song, "The Secret", is a rejected mix of the song number 2 from my fourth album "WARM", which was produced by Farouk Ahyar, Phil Davies and myself. It features some slide guitar by yours truly which is not found on the final mix that went into the album. Instead Phil added his own track which at the time we all thought sounded better. But on hearing ithe original again I decided I liked the early version, as the slide adds a threatening and dark looming ominousness to the mood, as well as the reverb and delay on the voice and drums.
The song is about depression and rejection with the hero rather desperate and resigned - but heh hoh why can't we express these emotions? Why do we have to entertain all the time and be full of joie-de-vivre? At times it's more healthy to be genuinely miserable, especailly if you've got a good reason which the hero of this song obviously has (don't remember how I was feeling or why I wrote it and what the secret actually is, as I wrote the song many years ago. The album WARM was released September 2001.
